Anders Frederiksen, General Manager of Head Energy Denmark Consulting

Driven by ambitious targets and streamlined regulations, I am convinced that the French offshore wind market presents significant market opportunities for Head Energy’s core business within maritime operations hence a great potential for French engineers. I look very much forward to collaborating with my colleagues and to reconnecting with my network to bring Head Energy one step ahead in France, Benoît Bizet says.

Growth oriented market for green energy in France

Benoît has identified some of the Key Market Drivers & Considerations indicating that the French offshore wind market is transitioning from its nascent stage to a rapid growth phase hence represents great business opportunities for Head Energy and its field of expertise:

  • Ambitious Government Targets: With 2.5 GW of current installed offshore wind capacity, the French government aims 18 GW by 2035 and 45 GW by 2050. This creates a long-term, predictable pipeline of projects for the maritime industry.
  • Streamlined Regulations: Recent laws and administrative changes are designed to accelerate project development, reduce delays and increase competition, making the French market more attractive for investors and maritime operators.
  • Local Content Requirements: The French government is committed to developing a local supply chain. This means that Head Energy will be able to capitalize on its presence in France.
  • Regional Hubs: Key port areas like Nantes Saint-Nazaire are being developed into major industrial hubs for offshore wind, concentrating opportunities for maritime and logistics businesses and could host the first Head Energy office in the country.

Driven by the ambitious government targets and a rapid increase in project development mentioned above, offshore wind in France presents significant market opportunities for Head Energy’s core business within maritime operations. While France has historically lagged behind its European neighbors, a concerted effort to streamline regulatory processes and invest in infrastructure is creating a fertile ground for the maritime sector.

Based on his market expertise, Benoît has identified the following key business opportunities for Head Energy within the maritime operations’ sector, broken down by project phase:

  • Construction & Installation: Immediate demand for heavy-lift transport, cable laying, support vessels (tugboats, anchor handlers, CTVs, survey vessels), and port logistics.
  • Operations & Maintenance (O&M): Continuous need for service operation vessels (SOVs), crew transfer vessels, inspection/repair (ROVs, diving services), and logistics for spares and consumables.
  • Emerging Floating Wind: Unique prospects due to deep waters, requiring expertise in anchor/mooring installation, dynamic cables, and towing heavy floating structures.

Benoît plans to grow Head Energy’s footprint within the French maritime operation’s sector by reaching out to the organizations and companies responsible for the above-described activities to identify their specific needs and to propose Head Energy’s matching services and solutions. This phase may result in accompanying the clients in their mission but also in suggesting solutions they may not have envisioned.

To deliver the agreed services and solutions for the French projects, it is crucial that Head Energy proposes the best engineers. To attract and recruit the best marine engineers, Benoît will prospect directly in the relevant schools and via his well-established national and regional network.
